DNV is the leading Classification Society for the classification of ships, rigs, and offshore platforms. DNV provides technical support, design review, surveys and the relevant certifications necessary for the certifications of offshore containers.

DNV comprises over 5,500 employees in 300 offices in over 100 different countries worldwide. DNV 2.7-1 was first published in 1989, with a second edition in 1995, and the current 2006 version. The current BS EN12079(1999) is based on DNV 2.7-1 (1989). Since 1989, DNV has certified nearly 40,000 containers world-wide.
